How to Unlock Fall Business Growth with One Practical Goal

What if the secret to transforming your business this fall lies in a single, actionable goal? In the latest episode of The Mind Your Time Podcast, I dive into strategies that can help you master time management and set your business up for exponential growth. As summer winds down and before the holiday rush begins, this is the perfect time to establish a new routine and get ahead.

I share the inspiring story of Jodi, a savvy entrepreneur who, like many of us, found herself overwhelmed and stretched too thin. Jodi had big dreams, but her business was running her, not the other way around. Through my signature five-step POWER process, Jodi learned to normalize feelings of overwhelm and focus on one goal at a time. This approach allowed her to achieve real progress and regain control over her business and life.

The first step in the POWER process, “Pick One Goal,” emphasizes the importance of narrowing down to a single, actionable goal. By focusing on what truly matters, you can free yourself from the constant pressure of trying to do everything at once. This step is crucial for those looking to achieve fall business growth without spreading themselves too thin.

Next, I talk about conducting an “Operations Audit.” It’s not the most glamorous part of running a business, but it’s essential. Your back-office systems need to support your long-term goals. Skipping this step is like building a house on a shaky foundation. In the episode, I share insights on how to conduct an operations audit and offer resources like the BizOps checklist to make the process easier.

Once you’ve identified your goal and audited your operations, the next step is to “Write a 90-Day Action Plan.” A goal without a plan is just a wish. By breaking down your goal into small, actionable steps, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and stay focused on your objective. This 90-day framework is designed to keep you on track while allowing you to make significant progress.

The fourth step, “Execute Your Plan,” is where many entrepreneurs get stuck. Life happens, and plans can fall by the wayside. But staying consistent and focused, even when things get tough, is key to achieving fall business growth. I encourage you to chip away at your goals bit by bit, and I offer support through The MY-T Society Membership, where you can access tools, resources, and personalized advice.

Finally, the step that ties it all together is “Remember Your Why.” It’s easy to lose sight of why you started your business in the first place, especially when challenges arise. But your “why” should be your North Star, guiding you through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Reflecting on your purpose helps you stay motivated and aligned with your goals.

Throughout the episode, I also emphasize the importance of streamlining business processes to improve efficiency and reduce chaos. I encourage listeners to grab my free audio masterclass for additional insights and practical steps to help organize processes and achieve fall business growth.

The episode wraps up with a call to action to join The MY-T Society Membership and participate in the Beach to Business 5-Day Challenge. This challenge is designed to help you plan and prepare for fall growth, with each day offering actionable strategies and resources to set goals, prioritize, and optimize business processes.

Overall, this episode of the Mind Your Time podcast offers a comprehensive guide to transforming your business this fall with a single, actionable goal. My practical tips and structured approach provide a roadmap for entrepreneurs to take control of their time, scale their business, and create success on their own terms. Whether you’re a longtime listener or new to the podcast, this episode is packed with valuable insights to help you crush your business goals while enjoying life.

Today, I’m sharing bold strategies to help you take control of your time, crush your goals, and transform your business with my signature POWER process. If you’re ready to make some bold moves, stay tuned—this episode is packed with game-changing insights just for you!

I’m so glad you’re here today because we’re about to dive into something that can completely transform your business—time management strategies for prepping your business for fall growth. It shouldn;t surprise you that time management is the first thing I mention. After all, this is the Mind Your Time podcast.
But back to today's topic. We’re in that unique time of year when summer is coming to an end and we really need to refocus and get ready for the busy months ahead. So, are you ready to make the most of this season and get ready to crush it this fall? Let’s get into it!
I am going to start with a story that might hit close to home for some of you. I’ve shared this story in many other episodes, but in case you;re new to the podcast I want you to hear it too.
I had the privilege to work with Jodi Silverman—an ambitious entrepreneur, just like you. She had big dreams of growing her business, especially through public speaking and expanding her membership. But Jodi was stretched way too thin in her business. She was constantly wasting time on non-essential tasks, and even though she knew she needed help, she was too disorganized to even think about hiring a virtual assistant. She had no documented processes, not enough systems in place, and her business was running her, not the other way around. It was so overwhelming that she couldn’t even find the headspace for strategic planning, let alone focus on growth. And she was ready to just give up and move on to something else.
Does that sound familiar? Because I know I’ve been there, and I’m sure a lot of you have too.
But Jodi also had a revelation when she paused and looked at her reality. Jodi knew something had to change, and that’s when she basically phoned a friend who connected us together. SO after that introduction email, Jodi’s journey through my signature POWER process started. This is where the transformation really happens, so I’m going to break it down for you today.
P stands for Pick One Goal. This step is all narrowing your focus. The biggest mistake I see entrepreneurs make is trying to do too much at once. You might have a million ideas, and they all feel urgent, especially if yo’;re working with a business coach. But when you spread yourself too thin by doing too many things, nothing gets done well.
Jodi is a perfect example of this. She was drowning in tasks, but once she picked that one goal she wanted to focus on—getting her back-office operations in order—everything started to change. She realized that by focusing on one thing at a time, she could make real progress without feeling overwhelmed. And I’m going to be honest with you, focusing on one goal at a time isn’t just about getting things done—it’s about freeing yourself from the constant pressure of feeling like you’re never doing enough. BUt it requires discipline because you have ignore the voices telling you to do more including your own.
So, let’s take a moment right now and think about it: What’s one goal you can focus on for the next 90 days? Is it streamlining your existing business processes? Are you launching a new product or service? Whatever it is, make it specific, make it actionable, and commit to it.
And if you need a little guidance on this, you can use the 90-Day Goal Setting Worksheets inside the MY-T Society Membership to help you define and align your priorities based on the season your life is in because that matters.
In fact, this idea of focusing on one goal is a major component of the Beach to Business 5 Day Challenge: Ignite Your Fall Growth which is available for members of The MY-T Society Membership. Each day of this audio challenge gives you actionable steps that keep you on track, just like Jodi did. Go to theshannonbaker.com/membership to check that out.
O is for Operations Audit. Now, I know the word ‘audit’ might make you cringe, but trust me on this one. An operations audit is like holding a mirror up to your business. It’s about getting real with yourself—are your operations truly aligned with your mission, vision, and values right now?
Too many entrepreneurs skip this step because, let’s face it, it’s not the sexy part of running a business. But ignoring it is like building a house on a shaky foundation and without a good blueprint. Until we started working together, Jodi hadn’t realized just how disconnected her day-to-day operations were from her long-term goals. But once we did an audit of her back office operations, she saw exactly where she needed to make improvements and what gaps needed to be filled in.
Here’s the best part! You don’t have to go through this process alone. Inside the membership, there is a Biz Ops Checklist that will help you do a quick audit of your operations in real time, helping you identify gaps and areas for improvement. I actually walk you through this step in the Beach to Business Challenge.
Now Jodi booked a back office assessment so I did the heavy lifting of the audit. But you can’t even book a back-office assessment with me unless you’re a member of The MY-T Society. And there’s a reason for that. The MY-T Society is where you get the resources, tools, support, and community that help make these changes possible. It’s not just about getting through the day—it’s about building a business that supports the life you want to live. Speaking of living your life…
W stands for Write a 90-Day Action Plan. This is where you take that goal you picked and break it down into actionable steps. We all know the cliche, a goal without a plan is just a wish. Jodi didn’t just say she wanted to get her operations in order—she knew some of the steps she needed to take, from organizing her Google Drive to implementing new systems. She also recognized she needed someone to do this for her. And because we were working within a 90-day framework, it didn’t feel overwhelming, most of the time. It was just one step at a time, each day bringing her closer to her goal. What’s powerful about a 90-day plan is that it’s short enough to keep you focused but long enough for you to make real progress. And you can easily extend your plan beyond the 90 days if you need to. That’s what happened when I was focused on growing my business to leave my day job. I worked the same plan the entire year. I realized that there were layers of work I needed to do in 90 day increments to get me closer to my goal. So I worked my plan and met my goal in December 2023 and left my day job. You can get results too with the right resources and support.
And I know when it comes to writing out your processes, this isn’t an easy task for most if not all of you. That’s why I created the Process Mapping in 5 Steps resource in the membership. It helps you document and identify what to automate in your processes so you can create that clear roadmap to follow. And if you join The MY-T Society membership and complete the Beach to Business Challenge, I’ll be helping you craft that 90-day plan to set the foundation for your fall growth. Then once you have the plan…
E is for Execute Your Plan. This is where a lot of people get stuck—they make a plan, but then life happens, and the plan goes out the window. Or they hit a bump in the road and just give up. Sound familiar? The POWER process is all about staying consistent and focused, even when things get tough. You have to stick to your plan, even when things get busy or hard. When you do you will start seeing results.
As we executed Jodi’s plan several things started to happen. She got clarity in her business which paved the way for her to consider some things she had been putting off like launching her podcast, booking more speaking engagements, and, most importantly, she fell back in love with her business. Execution is where dreams become reality, but it requires discipline. You don’t need to move mountains in a day—just keep chipping away, bit by bit and great things will happen in time.
Now I know this is easier said than done. And there will be moments when you start to question why you are working as hard as you are. Sidebar, this is the only time I give you permission to enter hustle mode. When you have a good plan, sometimes it requires you to put things in motion at an accelerated pace. But that hustle period should end. That’s another reason I am a huge fan of planning in 90 day increments. A 90 day hustle can make great things happen. And then things can go back to normal. But when things get tough…
R stands for Remember Your Why. This is the glue that holds it all together. It’s really easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of running your business and lose sight of why you started your business in the first place. For Jodi, remembering her why—wanting to create a business that allowed her to have more freedom and time with her family—kept her motivated, even on the tough days. It’s what kept her pushing forward, making sure her business was serving her life, not the other way around.
For me, I wanted to be able to decide where I spent my time. I wanted to be able to take time for my faith and my family without having to ask permission while earning money that allowed me to make lasting memories with my family without having to worry about where the money would come from.
Now it’s your turn. I want you to think about your why. Why did you start your business? What drives you to keep going, even when it gets tough? Write it down, put it somewhere you’ll see it every day, and let it be your north star when things get hard and you want to give up.
This is something we’ll also be reflecting on during the challenge. Keeping your “why” at the forefront will help you stay aligned and motivated throughout your journey.
Now, here’s the kicker: The exact strategies I used to work with Jodi and many other business owners, are part of the Beach to Business 5 Day Challenge: Ignite Your Fall Growth, which is available exclusively inside The MY-T Society Membership.
This five-day audio challenge is designed to help you use the summer slowdown to your advantage and plan and prepare for fall growth. Each day, you’ll get actionable strategies and resources that will help you set goals, prioritize and optimize your business processes, and take action toward achieving those fall growth goals.
Let’s talk a bit more about intentional time management because it’s crucial to shift your mindset about what is realistically achievable. I’m a big advocate for work-life integration rather than work-life balance. Why? Because work-life integration allows you to create synergy between your work and personal life. It offers flexibility, enabling you to complete your work while still making time for yourself and your family. Work-life balance, on the other hand, is an unattainable myth. There will always be moments when work or personal life needs to take priority. The key is to integrate them in a way that allows you to thrive in both areas.
So, to quickly recap today’s episode: We explored how you can shatter the limits holding your business back using my signature POWER process. We discussed the importance of narrowing your focus to one key goal, auditing your operations to align with your vision, writing a solid 90-day action plan, executing that plan with discipline, and always remembering your ‘why’ to keep you motivated.
Each of these steps is designed to help you take control, crush your goals, and transform your business for the better.
